Innovation through cooperation

INNOVATION THROUGH COOPERATION

To be at the top, you need to innovate. And to develop and implement the best innovations you need to work together. Sharing knowledge is one of the most important conditions to stimulate the development of the best possible products. This is why Damen works nationally and internationally with customers such as the US Coastguard, independent research organisations including Technical University Delft, TNO and MARIN, suppliers and classification societies.

Customer feedback leads to innovative solutions

Our customers’ feedback is one of the most important sources of information for our innovation programmes. We not only work together to improve the products they bought, we also work together to adjust our products to fit new demands. Our customers inform us about new and changing requirements so we are able to adapt our solutions or even develop new innovative solutions.
If suppliers innovate, we do too

If our suppliers are improving their products with innovative solutions this can impact ship designs. Therefore, we work together with our suppliers in developing new and innovative products to ensure we offer a fully integrated, compatible solution. An example is sailing on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), an innovative solution for sustainable fuel with lower emissions. A great solution, but one that has a great impact on the safety regulations and thereby, on the design of vessels.
Working with independent research organisations

We know that you can only be at the top if you invest in innovation. And to do this, cooperation or even a partnership with independent research organisations is crucial. Damen works alongside world-renowned research institutes such as Delft University of Technology, Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN) and the Netherlands Organization of Applied Scientific Research (TNO), as well as other reputed universities and leading maritime companies. With Delft University of Technology we even have a special cooperation that has led to truly pioneering designs such as the Enlarged Ship Concept and the Sea Axe.

APPROVAL FROM CLASSIFICATION SOCIETIES

Every vessel and maritime solution must comply with the regulations and accounting standards determined by classification societies. Approval from these organisations is off course mandatory and also applies to new products and solutions. That’s why working closely together with these organisations is much more efficient. And naturally, the classification societies have an enormous knowledge base to share.
