Eight Ø 5,050 mm Optima nozzles for the four Ultra Long Distance Towing and Anchor Handling Tugs have been delivered some time ago. Already in September last year, the first tug ALP Striker joined the ALP fleet and during the year remaining vessels will be delivered to the owner.
Caterpillar provided the complete main propulsion units and commissioned Damen Marine Components, a member of the Damen Shipyards Group, to design, engineer and produce the nozzles and head box sets with her spinning techniques.
The four sister vessels were built in Japan for ALP Maritimes Services, a Teekay Offshore Partners subsidiary. The 300+ tons bollard pull, 24,400 BHP ocean towing and anchor handling vessels have two propulsion units each in a CPP stern-drive and rudder configuration.
Before delivery model tests were done at Marin in Wageningen Holland. The test result already indicated 300+ tons bollard pull. The actual results of the bollard pull tests even exceeded to nearly 310 tons!
