Recent projects

We now have 16 shipyards worldwide that perform the most challenging repair and conversion jobs possible. Here are some examples of recent projects to give our customers an idea of what we are capable of.

Agile

"AGILE" is currently an offshore construction support vessel that has to be converted into a Pipe Lay Support Vessel which is able to lay flexible pipes to a water depth of 2,000 metres.
Amazone

In a period of only five weeks 64 tonnes of steel was renewed on the hopper dredger Amazone which is owned by dredging firm “De Boer”. Eight sections were built on the site in Schiedam and transported on a pontoon to Pernis. During the modification regular maintenance was also performed. Through good planning and control of the project management the Amazone was able to resume her work in France according to plan.
BP oil tankers

Since July 2010, Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam has been busy with modifications to the boiler fuel system of six BP oil tankers. In 2009 the IMO has set new rules on the use of heavy fuel oil in coastal areas and ports. These new rules only allow the use of boilers running on Low Sulphur Gas Oil in order to reduce emissions in populated areas. All of the vessels are 250 m, Aframax tankers and belong to BP’s “Bird-class”. Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam is currently busy with the sixth vessel. The modification involves the fabrication and installation of a complete secondary fuel system to both boilers. All of the vessels have actually been delivered on time or earlier than the scheduled delivery date due to strict planning. As well as the boiler fuel modifications various other jobs were performed including work on pipes, ME cylinder covers and air coolers.
GSF LABRADOR

The jack-up drill rig "GSF LABRADOR" arrived on June 26, 2011 to be converted into hotel accommodation. The main scope of the work is the removal of the complete drilling installation and the 80 m high drilling tower. After delivery the accommodation rig will go into service in the coastal waters of Denmark.
Royal Crown

Needing some repair work, the Royal Crown was docked, the thruster was tapped and the damaged propeller was removed. A new propeller was installed and after the thruster was filled the vessel was ready to go.
Stad Amsterdam

The Clipper Stad Amsterdam was brought to Van Brink Rotterdam for maintenance and repair following a joint initiative by the Dutch employment agency, Randstad, and the community of Amsterdam. In just one week the sloops had been completely conserved, dismantled and overhauled. Our divers also carried out repair and cleaning work.
STELLA WEGA

"STELLA WEGA" is a bitumen tanker that anchored in the River Scheldt when it experienced main engine trouble when coming from Antwerp in May 2011. The vessel was towed to Damen’s yard and after inspection it became clear that the crankshaft was beyond repair and needed to be replaced.
The Ark of Noah

Built by a non-profit organisation, this vessel is a replica of the “original” Noah’s Ark mentioned in the Bible. Where the original one was completely made of wood, the replica has its flooding capacity from 12 pontoons connected to each other. Then the wooden construction is built on top of these pontoons. The pontoons are connected by steel strips welded onto them but because this was executed in the water only the top and sides above the waterline were done. During the docking of the Ark Damen had the opportunity to add strips to the bottom and the sides under the waterline. This makes the construction stronger and means that the Ark is ready to cross the North Sea to visit England for the Olympic Games in 2012.
