Pioneering standardised shipbuilding
In 1969, our Chairman Kommer Damen pioneered standardised shipbuilding. His idea was to give customers a wide range of benefits such as being able to order vessels based on proven technology directly from stock, resulting in exceptionally fast delivery times.
Continual product development
Focusing on series building meant that the vessels shared a lot of commonality (equipment and spare parts) and that they are optimised through continual product development. Ultimately, Kommer Damen’s vision allowed him to offer sharply priced, top quality vessels and swift delivery times.
Future-proof, sustainable vessels
Today, the philosophy of series production is more relevant than ever before. As our industry looks towards increasing sustainability and digital connectivity, standardisation provides an efficient vehicle to make this transition. Therefore, Damen is certainly prepared for the future.
Damen Song Cam Shipyard is born
In 2011 Damen Technical Cooperation (DTC) began a successful collaboration with Song Cam Shipyard, which led to a joint venture yard for outfitting tugs a few years later. Damen Song Cam Shipyard is located on the banks of the River Cam on a 43-hectare site, close to the city of Haiphong.
High production rate
The partners wanted to have a modern facility that brought the Damen philosophy of standardisation to Vietnam. Able to produce vessels up to 60 metres in length, the yard now builds no less than 40 tugs per year. The impressive rate of production stands as a testimony to our strategy of standardisation. Proven workboats are being built to the highest possible Damen standards and customers are guaranteed a swift delivery.
