Cooperation between Damen Services Central America and Cotecmar strengthens

Colombiamar 2025, organised by Cotecmar and held from 12 to 14 March at the Cartagena de Indias Convention Centre, served as a key platform for the naval, maritime and river industries, promoting innovation and international collaboration.

PES Frigate programme:

At the event, Damen showcased its ongoing collaboration with Cotecmar and Saab on the PES frigate programme, which is based on the SIGMA 10514 design and has been tailored to meet the requirements of the Colombian Navy. Saab will provide the Combat Management System and associated technology.

• Local construction & technology transfer: The PES frigate is to be built in Cartagena by Cotecmar, marking Colombia’s first domestically constructed frigate. This initiative highlights Damen’s commitment to technology transfer and the development of the local shipbuilding industry.

• Economic impact: The project is expected to generate significant employment opportunities and stimulate the national economy by fostering local industrial supply chains and supporting Colombia’s reindustrialisation efforts.

A key achievement for Damen Services Central America was the agreement of a standard docking cooperation contract with Cotecmar, which will streamline dry docking services at the shipyard. This will improve operational efficiency and guarantee worry-free docking, thereby improving the uptime of clients' fleets.
