P&O turns an equipment failure into a future-ready PRAXIS upgrade
A challenge beyond a single component
When a critical PRAXIS Pro-Series hardware component failed onboard one of P&O’s ASD tugs, the customer was confronted with a challenge familiar to many operators of ageing systems. With the platform approaching obsolescence and replacement parts becoming increasingly difficult to source, the risk of extended downtime and growing maintenance demands was a concern.
Working closely with P&O, Damen Services proposed a complete PRAXIS upgrade solution that would not only resolve the immediate issue but also support the long-term operational needs of the vessel.
Looking beyond the immediate fix
Rather than replacing a single failed component and continuing to rely on ageing technology, P&O recognised the opportunity to modernise. The decision reflected a broader focus on maintaining reliable operations while reducing the risks associated with obsolete equipment and limited spare part availability.
The upgraded PRAXIS platform provides continued software support, improved system performance, and enhanced reporting capabilities. It also offers better access to operational data, enabling crews and technical teams to diagnose issues more effectively, make informed decisions and optimise maintenance planning.

The benefits of the upgrade quickly became clear. Following the successful implementation, the modernisation programme was extended to a total of three ASD tugs, helping to create greater consistency across the fleet while strengthening long-term supportability.
