The Shellfish Conferences Foundation is organizing the 9th edition of the International Shellfish Conference on 22 and 23 January 2026, at the DaVinci Cinema & exhibition space De Babbelaar in Goes.
The conference is aimed at the shellfish sector both within the Netherlands and abroad. Participants are expected from the Netherlands, the UK, Ireland, Germany, Denmark, and Portugal. English–Dutch and Dutch–English translation will be provided.
This year’s theme is “Perspectives for Sustainable Production and Marketing.” There are indeed perspectives, as shellfish are healthy food and their cultivation benefits nature. On the other hand, there are current challenges affecting both production and sales. Mussel harvests in the Netherlands are declining. Scarcity is partly compensated by imports, yet other regions in Europe are also reaching their limits. What are the causes, solutions, and prospects? How is this addressed elsewhere, and above all how do we reach the consumer?
