Damen Services Africa is enhancing its regional delivery with an upgraded hub in Cape Town, enabling faster response times, shorter project lead times and closer coordination across service disciplines for vessel operators across the continent.

The team has relocated to a new facility, expanding its existing presence to better support the growing demand for maintenance, repair and upgrade projects across the region.

Following two months of preparation, the new 400 m² hub is fully operational. It brings together key service capabilities in one location, enabling quicker decision-making and more consistent support for clients operating throughout Africa.

Established in 2022 as part of Damen Services’ established network of African hubs, this main hub delivers services to both the South African market and the wider continent.

Integrated capabilities for faster execution

The upgraded hub combines the coordination of Field Service Engineers with parts sales, project engineering, design and proposal functions.

This reduces internal handovers and shortens the path from issue identification to execution. Operators benefit from faster mobilisation, clearer technical alignment and quicker turnaround in quotations and project preparation.

“With this move, we are improving how we operate at every level,” says Brent Sickle, Service Hub Manager at Damen Services Africa. “By bringing our teams and capabilities together, we can respond faster, align better internally and support our clients more effectively across the region.”

Supporting complex projects across the region

Damen Services Africa has seen increasing demand in vessel repair and refit projects. The new facility enables the team to handle more complex scopes with improved coordination.

The hub is also positioned to expand into broader project management services, allowing Damen to take a more central role from initial assessment through to delivery. This creates a more structured approach and reduces disruptions during execution.

Training to improve performance in the field

A dedicated training centre forms part of the new premises. It supports both customer crews and the ongoing development of Damen’s Field Service Engineers.

Better-prepared crews and engineers contribute to smoother operations and more efficient interventions when support is required.

While onboard the situation has improved considerably in recent years, it has been suggested that URN associated with shipping has actually increased in recent decades.

Prepared for continued growth in Africa

The additional space ensures the hub can accommodate further demand from the African market. With operational coordination, engineering and parts working side by side, the team is equipped to scale without slowing down delivery.
