Damen: Engine of the Green Ocean during #SAIL2025

Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam will be the home base for the theme of Innovation & Sustainability during the tenth edition of SAIL.

Damen Shipyards Group joins the tenth edition of SAIL as an official Supporting Partner. The Dutch shipbuilding company will be the driving force in the “Green Ocean” of SAIL2025, with their Amsterdam yard as the center for the theme Innovation & Sustainability. The Green Ocean is one of five festival areas – called “oceans” – of SAIL2025. From Wednesday 20 to Sunday 24 August 2025, Amsterdam will celebrate connection on and around the water. Hundreds of ships, thousands of crew members, and more than two million visitors from all over the world will come together to celebrate maritime history and future: United by Waves!  “We are very proud to contribute to the success of SAIL with our ships, people, and Amsterdam yard, but especially with our knowledge and skills,” says Arnout Damen, CEO of Damen Shipyards Group.

Past, Present and Future

Damen joining SAIL Amsterdam is a logical step in a partnership that goes back to many editions. The organisations share a maritime past, present, and future. Damen built several ships that will take part in SAIL2025, including the flagship Clipper Stad Amsterdam. Damen also works on the future of shipping and will show new, innovative ships like sustainable waterbuses during SAIL2025.

Innovation and Sustainability at SAIL

In the “Green Ocean”, the area around Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam and the NDSM site in Amsterdam North, the public can experience many things related to Innovation & Sustainability. “We call it Navigating the Future: showing maritime innovations to everyone during SAIL in our capital city,” says Mitra van Raalten, director of SAIL2025. Arnout Damen adds: “The theme Innovation and Sustainability fits us well. For every type of ship we offer, we want to develop a sustainable version. We already offer fully electric tugboats, ferries, workboats, and vessels for dredging and offshore.”

In 2025, we celebrate the 750th birthday of Amsterdam with the 10th edition of SAIL Amsterdam. Ships, crew members and visitors from all over the world will come together to celebrate maritime history and different world views.
