Damen Shipyards Group, in partnership with the Danish Export Association, has held a Match-Making Day in Helsingør, Denmark. Currently, the country is preparing for a series of naval projects to be undertaken over the coming years. The event was set up to explore the potential to further strengthen long-term industrial cooperation for these projects, in a manner beneficial to Danish sovereign maritime capability and sustainable economic value.

Long-term commitment to Denmark

The event complements the pre-existing cooperation between the Netherlands and Denmark, two like-minded European nations with a long maritime history. For its part, Damen is aiming to intensify its long-term commitment to the Danish maritime and defence industry in order to support the country’s naval ambitions through structured industrial cooperation.

The company has a keen focus on industrial cooperation. This sees Damen pursue long-term collaboration with national governments, local industry and knowledge institutes, as well as relevant trade institutions.

Integrated industrial cooperation

Damen’s approach to industrial cooperation is an integrated one, incorporating procurement, engineering, design and through-life support.

Its work in this field has led to Damen’s unrivalled portfolio of projects undertaken together with local industry and labour. To date, the company has completed 1,500 such projects in 60 different countries around the world. Additionally, Damen has delivered 25 vessels to Denmark.

Exploring potential for collaboration

The Match-Making Day was held at the premises of Knud E. Hansen, a Danish expert provider of naval design, engineering and management services and a part of the Damen Shipyards Group since 2012. The event was attended by more than 40 Danish companies, who were invited to participate in structured one-on-one sessions to further explore the potential for future collaboration.

Damen Industrial Participation Manager Marijke Winiarski said, “We are pleased to partner with the Danish Export Association in hosting this Industrial Cooperation Day. Damen enjoys numerous, long-standing relationships with highly skilled Danish businesses that, as part of our supply chain, have played an important role in supporting innovation and quality at Damen. We look forward to expanding these collaborations with future industrial cooperation commitments in a way that creates real sustainable value for the country. It is our view that cooperations such as these are of greater importance now than ever, as our respective countries set about meeting their shared responsibilities for greater European maritime capabilities, particularly in the defence sphere.”
