In August 2025, the Cemex Go Innovation, a Damen Marine Aggregate Dredger (MAD) 3500, arrived at Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam (DSAm) for her five-year special survey.
No stranger to Amsterdam
The vessel is no stranger to the Amsterdam repair Yard, which has provided support to Cemex’s fleet for many years. As Project Manager Maxine Vedder explains, “We are very grateful to Cemex for the continued trust they place in our yard. We enjoy strong and long-lasting relationships with the Superintendent as well as with the vessel’s crew and it’s always a pleasure to welcome them back to Amsterdam. It’s a collaboration that works very well for both parties.”
Dredge pipe renewal
During this most recent docking of the vessel, DSAm was tasked to undertake a complete renewal of the Cemex Go Innovation’s dredge pipe. Performing this work alongside the five-year survey provided Cemex with additional efficiency, saving them from a return visit to the Yard and maximising vessel uptime.
Additionally, DSAm carried out work to the vessel’s screening installation, overboard valves and renewal of her propeller blades. While at the Yard, the Cemex Go Innovation underwent complete blasting and repainting, departing Amsterdam refreshed and ready to go on October 29.
Industry understanding
Ben Manfield, Cemex Superintendent, said, “We have been working with Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam for some years now. As well as the Damen-built Cemex Go Innovation, we also bring the other vessels in our fleet to the Yard. DSAm has a thorough understanding of the dredging industry and our requirements, including the importance of meeting tight deadlines. We are very satisfied with the flexible support provided by the team in Amsterdam and continue to be impressed by their ability to respond quickly and deliver effective solutions to unforeseen issues. As the Yard motto says, DSAm really do ‘go the extra yard’ for their clients.”
Services support
Often, the work DSAm carries out to the Cemex Go Innovation is on behalf of Damen Services, which has a contract to provide ongoing support since the delivery of the vessel at the end of 2020. This includes holding regular, monthly meetings with the client to ensure ongoing optimal performance, as well as twice-yearly vessel visits.
Damen Services also keeps a spare 1,400 kilowatt permanent magnet dredge pump motor on behalf of Cemex. Damen Services Account Manager for Cemex Ruben de Quaasteniet says, “The motor to drive the vessel’s dredge pump is custom made, with a lead time of almost a year for manufacture. Having a spare means that, in the event of a breakdown, we are able to have the vessel in operation again very quickly.”
