Custom-built liquid transport platforms

Liquid Barges

Tank barges

Liquid transport rarely fits a template. Cargo properties, operating waters and regulatory pressure combine in ways standard designs cannot absorb. Our tank barges start from proven Damen platforms, then move outward – around cargo behaviour, transfer routines and day‑to‑day constraints. In inland waterway service, this can mean predictable trim during partial loads or stable behaviour during alongside work; in harbour duties, clean transfer cycles and controlled flows matter more. The outcome is a vessel that matches its role from first towline on.

What defines our approach

  • Built for specific cargo flows

Different liquids behave differently underway and during transfer. We shape liquid cargo barges around flow patterns to reduce operational correction during loading and discharge.

  • Double hull where it matters

A double hull tank arrangement is integrated early in the design, not added later. This keeps protection consistent without complicating inspection or maintenance routines.

  • Designed for inland and offshore operations

Our liquid barges can be designed for both inland and sea-going operations, ensuring reliable performance whether facing offshore conditions or the restricted manoeuvring margins and shallow drafts of inland waterways.

  • Bunker operations without compromise

Fuel barges and bunker barges are laid out to support repeated port calls, predictable hose handling and short turnaround windows, keeping port-side operations tight.

  • Operational compliance

Designs are fully aligned with the applicable regulations fit for the intended operational profile. By integrating essential ADN and IMO requirements into the foundation, complete regulatory compliance is ensured from the start.

Oceanspray Lighter Barge for Serco

Serco needed to renew critical harbour support capacity for the Royal Navy under an intense fleet‑wide replacement programme. The Oceanspray lighter barge had to safely support refuelling and auxiliary operations while integrating into a 29‑vessel delivery schedule spanning multiple vessel types and naval bases. We delivered the non‑propelled lighter barge as part of a centrally managed, multi‑yard build programme, combining tailored design, schedule control and consistent quality to replace ageing assets without disrupting naval operations.

  • Fuel lighter supporting Royal Navy harbour operations
  • Delivered within a 29 vessel, three year programme
  • Adapted design replacing ageing naval support assets
  • Multi yard execution under single project coordination
