Partnering for a stronger maritime future
Industrial participation
Industrial Participation (IP) is central to our Defence & Security approach. Wherever Damen operates, we partner with governments, local industry, and research institutions to strengthen national capabilities, support local jobs, and ensure long-term value, in a sustainable way that makes business sense and aligns with our Code of Conduct and internal policies.
Why Damen?
A true partnership – beyond the contract
At Damen, industrial participation is never a tick-box exercise. We believe in building long-term partnerships with governments, industry, and academia – even in the absence of formal requirements. From the outset, we align ourselves with national goals, acting as a committed partner in the development of local maritime industries. It’s a philosophy rooted in mutual respect and shared ambitions.
Transfer of technology and knowledge
Damen offers access to cutting-edge design, engineering expertise, and proven technology, enabling local shipyards and businesses to become active players in their own development. This transfer of knowledge fosters self-sufficiency and builds industrial resilience that lasts long after delivery.
Delivering tangible economic growth
Industrial participation with Damen means real impact on the ground. We work with local suppliers and SMEs, often investing directly to strengthen capabilities and expand supply chains. Whether it’s job creation, upskilling, or generating opportunities for new entrants, Damen ensures a visible, measurable return on investment for the taxpayer and a boost for the local economy.
Proven track record across the globe
From South Africa to Mexico, and from Romania to Indonesia – Damen has decades of experience delivering high-value projects with significant local content. Our approach adapts to the specific needs of each country, creating tailored IP programmes that respect national priorities while opening the door to international collaboration. With Damen, success is shared.
Future-proofing through skills and education
We don’t just build ships – we help build futures. Damen actively invests in local education and workforce development, working closely with universities, technical schools, and training centres. In this way we aim to help the aspiring engineers, technicians and maritime professionals reach their full potential.
