The main Hamburg navigation channel needed dredging. This sounds simple, but it proved to be a challenge: plenty of objects in the navigation channel needed to be identified and removed before dredging could commence.

BALTIC Taucherei- und Bergungsbetrieb Rostock GmbH as subcontractor of Jan de Nul Nassbaggerei und Wasserbau GmbH took up the challenge by using the MultiTool. This MultiTool, designed and built by Martens en Van Oord with input of BALTIC Taucher, makes use of a DOP submersible dredge pump.

A build-on survey device can identify bottom debris. Then, the on-board specialist can decide whether it is safe to remove this debris by means of the poly grab mounted on the MultiTool - or mark the object for later removal.

Both the poly grab and the DOP dredge pump are hydraulically operated. They are mounted onto the boom of a crane, which was located on a large floating sheerleg with 200t heavy lift capacity “Baltic Lift” owned by BALTIC Taucherei- und Bergungsbetrieb Rostock GmbH.
