Another milestone for the F126 project: Damen contracts Wärtsilä SAM Electronics for electrical system integration
Wärtsilä SAM Electronics was contracted for electrical system integration
The Marine Electrical Systems division of Wärtsilä SAM Electronics GmbH, headquartered in Hamburg, has been contracted by Damen for the electrical system integration of the F126 project. In this way, Wärtsilä will significantly support the construction of the frigates for the German Navy.
After an intensive tendering and coordination phase, Damen awarded the contract last month. Harald Baumgarten, Vice President, Wärtsilä Marine Electrical Systems, is delighted with the trust shown in them by Damen and the BAAINBw as the contracting parties. ”We are very pleased that Damen has given this vote of confidence to Wärtsilä Marine Electrical Systems in this demanding project and look forward to the cooperation,” he says. “We want to make this project a success in close cooperation with Damen and the contracting authority.“
The scope of supply and services includes, besides integration of all electrical systems, the production and delivery of the switchgear, the power distribution system and the degaussing system, also the delivery of the lighting system and special equipment for energy supply, and the entire related ILS documentation.
Hein van Ameijden, Managing Director of Damen Naval emphasizes: ”With Wärtsilä, we have managed to bring on board another experienced partner for the F126 project. The employees at Wärtsilä have known the Damen team, as well as their counterparts at the German customer for years, a decisive advantage when it comes to effective cooperation within the integrated project teams. We continue to work full steam ahead to deliver the frigates in time and on budget.”
Wärtsilä will be involved for the entire project duration and will, after the engineering phase has been completed in the Netherlands and Germany, perform the installations and connection work at all three building shipyards in northern Germany (Hamburg, Wolgast and Kiel), as well as taking responsibility for commissioning the entire cabling system and their own scope of supply.
Wärtsilä SAM Electronics boasts a rich history in system integration for German naval projects, going back more than 50 years. Projects include the F124, F125 and both K130-batches, amongst others. The association between Wärtsilä and Damen goes back a long way as well, and it includes also current projects such as the Combat Support Ship for the Royal Netherlands Navy, which is currently being built by Damen.
