The combination of the PSV 5000’s flareless bows, slender hull lines and diesel-electric propulsion with azimuth stern drives minimises fuel consumption and emissions. Superior seakeeping and dynamic positioning ensure crew comfort in challenging sea conditions. Under Damen’s clean design and environmental care protocol E3, the vessels also feature fuel efficient generators and a selective catalytic reduction system, in compliance with forthcoming environmental regulations.
Working in subarctic conditions, in foggy conditions in a location renowned for strong winds, high waves, snow and icebergs, requires a safe design. The PSV 5000 has all this incorporated. All four vessels have iceberg management tools as an optional addition, while the IRM vessel features a 100 tonne subsea crane equipped with an advanced heave compensation system. The inclusion of diesel-electric propulsion is a key attribute, providing efficiency, flexibility and reliability under varied operational conditions in remote locations.
Working in harsh conditions sounds uncomfortable, but with the PSV this is not the case. We have optimised the seakeeping of our designs. The PSV 5000 IRM is the perfect example of how we meet specific client requirements at a competitive price level, by using our range designs as a starting point. The vessel is equipped with 940 m² of deck area, two ROV hangars and two FRCs. This design is much more than a scaled up version of the successful PSV 3300.
