Damen launches new Modular Barge Configurator

Damen Shipyards Group has announced the relaunch of its Modular Barge Configurator. The configurator allows vessel operators to develop a custom vessel in an online environment as a first step to construction. The new system has been designed to offer increased usability and wider-ranging options.

The Damen Modular Barge (DMB) is a proven platform that serves as a flexible building block for a wide range of vessel types. Applications include pontoons, jetties, Multi Cats, landing vessels and ferries for operation in coastal areas, bays, rivers, lakes and reservoirs.

The vessels are comprised of pre-outfitted modules designed to be transported as 20-foot or 40-foot containers. As a result, they can be delivered by road, rail, water or air anywhere in the world – including landlocked areas. On arrival at their destination, the vessels can be easily and rapidly coupled on-site with the unique, class-approved Damen Link System.

Increased options

The new Damen Modular Barge Configurator has been created to offer users an improved experience. Among its benefits are an increased range of options for designing vessels. This includes superstructures such as wheelhouses and accommodation blocks, as well as components and equipment, including containers, cranes, propulsion systems, and fenders.

The new system also features advanced graphics, as well as the possibility to add, for example, cargo and vehicles to the deck. Users create their vessel using a straightforward drag-and-drop approach.

First step to construction

In addition to creating a vessel using the modules, users are invited to provide Damen with additional information such as the vessel’s area of operation, desired speed capabilities, hull height and class requirements.

While vessel operators can use the system fully independently, Damen also uses it as a tool when in discussion with its clients, demonstrating the diverse possibilities presented by the DMB. The results generated by the system provide Damen with a foundation for further development, leading to the construction of a tailored, fit-for-purpose vessel.
